INSTRUCTIONS
A plan of career education concepts, activities and test evaluation procedures.
STEP 1 | The teacher/counselor will administer the pre test to the class in September. The purpose of this test is to determine the students’ understanding of basic Career Education concepts. |
STEP 2 | The pre test is scored and a summarization report of the class is completed by the teacher/counselor. Make two copies of the summarization report. (One copy to your principal and the second copy for your records.) |
STEP 3 | The teacher/counselor then begins to introduce the prepared concepts and activities to the class, placing particular emphasis on the items most frequently missed on the pre test. |
STEP 4 | The post test is administered in April. The purpose of this test is to determine if a change occurred from the previous testing. |
STEP 5 | The post test is scored and a summarization report of the class is completed by the teacher. Make two copies of the summarization report. (One copy to your principal and the second copy for your records. |

Appreciation and Attitudes
- People might choose a job they like though it pays very little.
- A college education will always get me a better job.
- The pay for a job indicates that job’s importance to society.
Self
- It is important to like one’s job in order to do it well.
- If I am interested in outdoor activities, I could chose the Agri-Business cluster as a possible career area.
- In order to do well in a technical school or college, I will generally need to do well in school now.
Decision Making
- It’s a good idea to have other choices ready if y our first choice does not work out.
- I will be able to choose a career more wisely if I look into only one career area.
- I should select a career that I like and one that makes me feel good about my work.
Educational
- I should be able to choose a career more wisely if I study a variety of subjects in school.
- Understanding my basic skills results (language arts, math, etc.) is important in planning possible career options.
- The subjects I study in school are not related to career choices.
Career
- If I am interested in camping, hiking, skiing, wild life, etc., I could seek training in the Hospitality and Recreational cluster.
- A doctor has to have a high interest in science and people.
- Many satisfying careers do not require four years of college training.
Economic
- A person who earns a lot of money in a career will always be happy in that work.
- Some form of training is necessary for employment.
- Careers that require a lot of training usually pay higher wages.
Skill
- If I wanted to be a journalist, the skills I learn in language arts classes would help me.
- The skills I practice in physical education classes could help me spend my leisure time wisely.
- Basic skills results should help me in making my career plans.
Employability
- If I enjoy being with people, I might consider the Personal Service cluster.
- What I do outside my work place affects my work status.
- My feelings and attitudes toward my co-workers will affect my job performance.
