As the breakfast preparation begins in the 34 KPBSD schools that sponsor a National School Breakfast Program (NSBP), ovens warm up,\u00a0 coolers are opened, and serving lines are filled with cereals, fruits, juices, \u00a0hot entrees and \u00a0of course\u00a0 the ubiquitous half pint milk.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1904\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1904\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/communications.blogs.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/wpmu\/files\/2015\/08\/school-lunch.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1904 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/communications.blogs.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/wpmu\/files\/2015\/08\/school-lunch-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"school lunch\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1904\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A KPBSD SNS breakfast included a hot breakfast quesadilla, strawberry cup, orange juice and milk.<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nBy the time breakfast service is completed 1,000 KPBSD students will have participated in the early morning nutrition opportunity.<br \/>\nAs the students quietly pass through the serving line, the SNS team guides them through the selection offered \u00a0breakfast items. And the adult servers offer up a warm, g<em>ood morning<\/em>\u00a0and, <em>Are you ready for school today?<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>USDA Breakfast Friends at Mountain View Elementary<\/strong><br \/>\nOlder siblings and friends help younger brothers, sisters, and friends who sometimes proceed sleepily through the line. They help unzip coats, and ensure they select the proper mix of items for their USDA Breakfast.<br \/>\nDuring the actual eating time for breakfast, it is quiet in the service area.<br \/>\nSometimes a little homework gets done.<br \/>\nSometimes, students come back to the serving line and whisper a request for a second portion of breakfast. Ginger prepares the breakfast offering before stepping into role as cashier.<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nAs students proceed to their class, having consumed a nutrient powerful breakfast of \u00a0whole grain, low sodium, protein perfect foods, some ask <em>What\u2019s for lunch?<\/em><br \/>\nWhen students depart the serving area, SNS members complete the clean-up and the record keeping required for breakfast service.
