Like a business, planning and operations, information systems, utilities, etc. are also included.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>How-to balance the budget?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Align revenues and expenditure<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Request that the state legislature, and the Kenai Peninsula Borough fully fund education<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>If available, use General Fund reserves (savings account) to fund deficit, in order to avoid staff reductions and increased class sizes<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>Balancing the FY18 Budget<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong>Status Quo Revenue projects a deficit of <span style=\"color: #800000\">\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>($ 3.45 million)*<\/strong><\/span><strong><br \/>\nProjected FY18 Expenditure Reductions \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"color: #800000\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #800000\">(2.48 million)<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Use of General Fund Balance (savings) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a01.13 million <\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>*<\/strong><\/span>The <a href=\"http:\/\/w3.legis.state.ak.us\/\">Alaska State Legislature<\/a> may recommend and vote to make additional reductions to education funding.<br \/>\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kpb.us\/\">Kenai Peninsula Borough<\/a> has the ability to increase support to education funding, by contributing to the maximum allowable contribution, also called a <em>cap. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>Go-To resources:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>KPBSD<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/departments.aspx?id=38\"><strong>Finance webpage<\/strong><\/a> <strong>http:\/\/bit.ly\/KPBSDfinance \u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>FY18 budget &amp; funding <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/VideoFY18Budget\"><strong>videos<\/strong><\/a> <strong>http:\/\/bit.ly\/VideoFY18Budget<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/KPBSDandTheLegislature\"><strong>KPBSD and the Legislature<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0https:\/\/bit.ly\/KPBSDandTheLegislature<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/communications.blogs.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>KPBSD Communications Blog<\/strong><\/a> <strong>and announcements http:\/\/bit.ly\/KPBSDnews <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/communications.blogs.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/files\/2017\/02\/2017-Spring-KPBSD-Budget-Awareness_Page_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3400\" src=\"http:\/\/communications.blogs.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/files\/2017\/02\/2017-Spring-KPBSD-Budget-Awareness_Page_2-791x1024.jpg\" alt=\"2017 Spring KPBSD Budget Awareness_Page_2\" width=\"517\" height=\"669\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #000080\"><strong>KPBSD Fiscal Reality &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Our challenge<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>\u201cAlaska is addressing its ongoing fiscal challenges, and it is important that everyone is involved in the conversation to ensure a long-term fiscal plan is finally implemented.\u201d <\/strong><br \/>\n\u2014 Superintendent Sean Dusek, Kenai Peninsula Borough School District<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>KPBSD Reductions:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong>For several years, budget reductions have come through efficiencies, Pupil to Teacher Ratio (PTR) increases, and reduction of staff.<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThe effects of these cuts have been kept as far away from the classroom as possible and most of the public do not realize these are already in effect. <span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>But, <\/strong><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #800000\">$8,550,530 has been reduced since FY15.<\/span> <\/strong><br \/>\nFY15 Budget Reductions\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ($1,254,000)<br \/>\nFY16 Budget Reductions\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 (1,375,000)<br \/>\nFY17 Budget Reductions\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 (3,436,829)<br \/>\nFY18 Budget Reductions\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 (2,484,701)<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800000\"><strong>Total Budget Reductions \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><strong>($ 8,550,530)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008080\"><strong>Further reductions to education funding in FY18 will increase the deficit, thus likely impact KPBSD staff, classroom instruction and support. <\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If the Alaska State legislature passes additional revenue cuts to state education funding, the KPBSD $3.45 million budget deficit will increase.
