Where does revenue come from?<\/strong> <\/span>
\n<\/strong>
\nKPBSD receives funding from three sources: <\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. State funding (this is a constitutional mandate)<\/li>\n
  2. Borough, or \u201clocal\u201d funding ($ linked to state funding)<\/li>\n
  3. Federal and Grant funds (designated expenditure categories that are non-transferable to other expenses)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    A school district does not have authority to raise its own revenue.
    \n<\/em>
    \nWhat is an expenditure?<\/strong> <\/span>
    \n<\/strong>Primary expenses are staff and classroom instruction. Like a business, planning and operations, information systems, utilities, etc. are also included.
    \n<\/strong>
    \nHow-to balance the budget?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Align revenues and expenditure<\/strong><\/li>\n
    2. Request that the state legislature, and the Kenai Peninsula Borough fully fund education<\/strong><\/li>\n
    3. If available, use General Fund reserves (savings account) to fund deficit, in order to avoid staff reductions and increased class sizes<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Balancing the FY18 Budget<\/strong><\/span>
      \nStatus Quo Revenue projects a deficit of \u00a0<\/span><\/strong>($ 3.45 million)*<\/strong><\/span>
      \nProjected FY18 Expenditure Reductions \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/strong>(2.48 million)<\/span>
      \n<\/strong>Use of General Fund Balance (savings) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a01.13 million <\/strong>
      \n*<\/strong><\/span>The       Alaska State Legislature<\/a> may recommend and vote to make additional reductions to education funding.
      \nThe       Kenai Peninsula Borough<\/a> has the ability to increase support to education funding, by contributing to the maximum allowable contribution, also called a cap. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
