{"id":6432,"date":"2020-04-07T19:25:55","date_gmt":"2020-04-08T03:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/communications.blogs.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/?p=6432"},"modified":"2020-04-07T19:25:55","modified_gmt":"2020-04-08T03:25:55","slug":"celebrate-school-nurses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kpbsd.org\/schools\/comm-test\/2020\/04\/07\/celebrate-school-nurses\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate School Nurses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On World Health Day in 2020, let us all thank\nand celebrate our school nurses and nurses everywhere who make a difference for\nstudents, families, and our communities, everyday!<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/communications.blogs.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/files\/2020\/04\/2020-04-School-Nurses-1024x577.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6433\" width=\"512\" height=\"289\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p><strong><em>\u201cWe want all our students out there to know, that even\nthough you aren\u2019t coming to school right now, we are STILL your school nurses, and\nwe are here for you!\u201d<\/em><\/strong> -Iris Wertz, BSN, RN, KPBSD nursing supervisor<\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>What do school\nnurses do?<\/strong>\n<br \/>\nSchool nurses address\nthe physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs of students and\nsupport their achievement in the learning process. They assist by removing\nbarriers and by identifying and correcting health problems that can interfere\nwith learning. School nurses are able to coordinate care so that a child has a\nsuccessful school experience.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>A typical day<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;Most school nurses see between 30 to 60\nstudents a day to treat everything from bloody noses to asthma attacks to\ndiabetic crashes. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Now that students are\nnot coming to school, nurses are contacting families who request it to answer\nquestions regarding:<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Mental and emotional wellness tips<\/li><li>Registration forms<\/li><li>Immunizations<\/li><li>Medications<\/li><li>Local resources for help<\/li><li>Online resources for activity ideas<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<p>Students and families\ncan reach their school nurse by directly emailing the school nurse or calling\nyour school.
