Free \u201cGet-It and Go\u201d meals for KPBSD students will continue Monday through Friday at 25 locations on the Kenai Peninsula.<br \/> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-default is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cKPBSD began providing distance-delivered instruction to our students on March 30, 2020, and initially we knew it would be through May 1, 2020. On Thursday evening, the issuance of State Health Mandate 013 clarified Alaska K-12 school buildings will be closed to students through the end of the school year. Consequently, we will complete the school year via remote learning education for all of our students. With the certainty that schools will not reopen to students, we are now planning for the end of the year. The district and schools will provide information to parents and students as soon as plans are finalized. We have so much confidence in our staff and every one of you\u2013we know that even if this spring is different than everyone ever anticipated, we will finish this school year with resilience, determination, and victory.\u201d <\/p><cite> &#8211;Dave Jones, Acting Superintendent, Kenai Peninsula Borough School District<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-medium-font-size has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color\"><strong>Highlights after nine days of Remote Learning for 8,500+ students in the KPBSD <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The KPBSD instructional team created and delivered\nmore than 400 professional development (PD) webinars covering 90 topics for all\nKPBSD staff when the school district transferred the delivery of education to\nremote learning. <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/g.kpbsd.org\/shifting-to-remote\/home?authuser=0\">PD\nclasses continue to be added, and are available on demand for KPBSD employees<\/a>.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<\/li><li>To offer additional\nsupports for parents during this time of student remote learning, KPBSD\nprofessional development coaches will begin offering free online webinars for\nparents and guardians on April 14, 2020. <a href=\"https:\/\/communications.blogs.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/2020\/04\/10\/kpbsd-parent-webinars-shifting-to-remote-learning\/\">These\nwebinars for parents are free, and registration is necessary.<\/a><br \/>\n<br \/>\n<\/li><li>Staff continues to contact and support students and\ntheir families. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/communications.aspx?id=41766\">School nurses<\/a>\nand counselors are available as resources for students and families during this\ntime of physical distancing. Individual schools provide outreach and engaging\nactivities for academics, and social and emotional learning. For families who\ndo not have the ability to access instruction online, packets for learning are\nmade available by teachers for students. <br \/>\n<br \/>\n<\/li><li>Special\neducation classified and certified staff were trained on distance delivery and\nhave plans for regular connection with every student receiving special\neducation services. Related service providers, including district occupational\ntherapists, physical therapists, and speech and language therapists will be\nproviding online support and resources for students, parents, and other staff\nmembers. Training opportunities and supports for parents&nbsp;are in progress,\nand students are receiving materials via special education bussing (for those\nalready served by this bussing)<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<\/li><li>The\ninformation services department has deployed about 700 Chromebooks to students,\ncreated an online platform for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/students_parents.aspx?id=448\">new-to-KPBSD student\nregistrations<\/a>, worked with telecom providers to offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/communications.aspx?id=41738\">internet\nsupport for students and staff<\/a>, and Monday through Friday staffs a help\ndesk to support staff and families.<br \/>\n<br \/>\n<\/li><li>Approximately 1,700 students receive free \u201cGet-it\nand Go\u201d meals every day.
