I am\nclosely watching each day as DHSS releases COVID-19 case counts, and am pleased\nwith how the Central Peninsula has been trending the past few days. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>I am hopeful that we\nwill be able to open our Central Peninsula schools to in-person onsite learning\non Tuesday September 8, 2020, if these encouraging trends continue. KPBSD incorporates science-based guidance to assist in decision-making processes. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/communications.aspx?id=42007\">Learn more at the KPBSD and COVID19 risk level webpage<\/a>. <strong>Tip: visit and bookmark the <a href=\"https:\/\/covid19.kpbsd.org\/dashboard\">new data dashboard.<\/a><br> <br> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/Workarea\/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=41997\">Symptom-Free\nSchool Protocol<\/a> for students and staff?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of this protocol is to provide a learning\nenvironment that is as free of illness as possible, so students and staff of\nall health levels can participate in school without fear. By extension, this\nwill also promote the safety, health and welfare of our communities. This applies\nto students, staff, parents and guardians, volunteers, and any school visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Parents\nand Guardians: check your child\u2019s temperature every morning before sending them\nto school. Ask your child how they feel before determining if they should be\nsent to school.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-luminous-vivid-amber-background-color\"><strong>When to Stay Home\nfrom School<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Stay\nhome if:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You have active vomiting or diarrhea<\/li><li>You have fever, chills, generalized body aches.\n(Fever threshold will constitute 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher without use\nof fever-reducing medication like Tylenol or Ibuprofen.)<\/li><li>If you have any other COVID-19 symptoms: fever,\ncough, shortness of breath, chills, shaking with chills, muscle pain, runny or stuffy\nnose, headache, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell.<ul><li>Parent,\nguardian, or individual should call their health care provider or Public Health\nfirst for guidance regarding presenting symptoms and possible testing for\nCOVID-19<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>You are taking the first 24 hours of antibiotic\ntreatment<\/li><li>You have an undiagnosed, new and, or, untreated\nrash or skin condition<\/li><li>If you have traveled outside Alaska or returned\nin the last 14 days and have not yet completed the state-required quarantine\nand, or, testing protocol<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background has-light-green-cyan-background-color\"><strong>When to Return to\nSchool After Illness<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you have been tested and are diagnosed with\nCOVID19, you may return to school no sooner than 10 days after the onset of\nsymptoms, or the date you took the test that was returned positive, whichever\nis earlier, and you have been symptom free for 24 hours without medication<\/li><li>If you have COVID19-like symptoms but choose\nnot to be tested, you may return to school no sooner than 10 days after the\nonset of symptoms AND you must be fever-free for 24 hours without taking any\nmedicine to reduce the fever AND you must be free of cough, cold, or other\nsymptoms for 24 hours, without taking medication to reduce symptoms<\/li><li>If you have COVID19-like symptoms, are tested\nand receive a negative result, you may provide the test result and return to\nschool 24 hours after you have been symptom-free with no medication<\/li><li>If you have symptoms and visit a doctor who\ndetermines your symptoms are caused by something else besides COVID19, you can\nprovide a doctor\u2019s note and return to school 24 hours after you have been symptom\nfree with no medication<\/li><li>If you feel the symptoms were caused by a\nchronic problem, such as allergies, please consult your school nurse. Your\ndoctor may be able to provide an order with an alternate diagnosis.
