An event could\nbe a positive COVID-19 case, outbreak (two or more positive cases in a school)\nor exposure to COVID-19 in a school. The health and safety of our students,\nstaff, and families is our top priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-medium-font-size\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/communications.aspx?id=42228\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Letter templates for if or when there is positive COVID-19 case exposure or spread in a KPBSD school (opens in a new tab)\">Letter templates for if or when there is positive COVID-19 case exposure or spread in a KPBSD school<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KPBSD\nworks closely with local public health officials and they will provide support\nand direction to manage every COVID-19 related scenario that affects our school\ncommunities. If or when a COVID-19 event occurs related to your school, you\nwill receive information via the usual school and district communication\nmethods. Depending upon the situation and response needed by you, the contact\nmay come via a phone call, email, alert, or general notification. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KPBSD\nhonors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/phlp\/publications\/topic\/healthinformationprivacy.html\">HIPAA\nand FERPA privacy laws<\/a>, so your name and your child\u2019s name will not be\nrevealed by the school, unless you give the school permission to do so. A\ndedicated webpage at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/content.aspx?id=42180\">KPBSD.org<\/a>\nis where to find the most up to date information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If your child receives\na positive COVID-19 test result, and they have been at school two days prior to\nthe onset of symptoms, or the testing date that resulted in a positive test\nresult,<\/strong>\nit will be helpful to begin contact tracing at their school immediately. So, we\nneed your help when you learn of a positive COVID-19 test result for your\nchild. Call Nurse Iris, KPBSD Nursing Supervisor to confidentially report a\npositive COVID-19 test result. You can reach her at 907-260-2391, <a href=\"mailto:IWertz@kpbsd.k12.ak.us\">IWertz@kpbsd.k12.ak.us<\/a>. Alternately, call your\nschool nurse or administrator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\nis important for everyone in our community to protect themselves against the\nremarkably contagious novel coronavirus. These are some ways to protect your\nfamily: <br>\n<br>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/Workarea\/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=41997\">Symptom Free School\nProtocol<\/a>:\nkeep children who are sick at home\u2014do not send them to school<br>\n<br>\n<\/li><li>Teach your children to\nwash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds, and set a good example by doing\nthis yourself<br>\n<br>\n<\/li><li>Teach children to cover\ncoughs and sneezes with a tissue or by coughing into the inside of their elbow,\nBe sure to set a good example by doing this yourself<br>\n<br>\n<\/li><li>Time and distance:\nteach your children to protect your family bubble or their school cohort, and\npractice physical distancing of about six feet away from others<br>\n<br>\n<\/li><li>Mask up with a cloth\nface covering when appropriate, especially indoors in crowded public places, on\nthe school bus, and in school hallways. Grades 3 and older in the KPBSD wear a\nmask at school when six foot physical distancing is not possible<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When you have COVID-19 related questions, contact your school nurse, healthcare provider, local public health department, or visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/dhss.alaska.gov\/dph\/Epi\/id\/Pages\/COVID-19\/default.aspx\">state DHSS<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/symptoms-testing\/symptoms.html\">national CDC<\/a> websites. Your school is always available to help, or you can reach out to the school district COVID-19 line at 907-714-8864, email covid19@kpbsd.org, or visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us\/content.aspx?id=42180\">covid19.kpbsd.org<\/a>. <br> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year will require adaption, a flexible mindset, and we will get through this with both challenges and blessings. We promise to communicate often, be proactive and swiftly reactive when necessary, even when we do not have all the answers.
