After completing my Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, my path took an unexpected but fortunate turn. I became a salmon set-net fisherman on Chisik Island, where I met my partner of 26 years, and in 1985, I entered the field of education. Fishing cemented my love of Alaska, and education took me on a route from Minnesota to California, and finally to Alaska. Our children enrolled in Fireweed Academy in 2009, and I joined the staff of Fireweed in 2011 as the first/second grade teacher at Little. I moved up to Big Fireweed five years later. I hold Masters’ of Education in Early Childhood and in Education leadership. This will be my 36th year of teaching, and my 10th with Fireweed. When not at school, I enjoy all outdoor activities, foraging, and paddleboarding with my family, as well as cooking, reading and gardening.
