We are writing to inform you of a change in Food Services at the school and the extended school day that will begin Monday, May 10. At this time, we do not have anyone who can substitute in Food Services. After discussions with KPBSD human resources, our district food service manager, and the district director for our school, we concluded the need to stop our Food Service Program for the remainder of this school year.
What does this mean?
- There will not be breakfast or lunch meals at school starting May 10th
- All students will return home for lunch. The new lunch break is 11:45 to 12:45
- The school day will be extended and end at 3:30, starting May 10th
To recap: Please make sure that all students return on time, at 12:45. Since lunch has been extended by 30 minutes to compensate travel to and from home, we will also need to extend the school day by 30 minutes. The student release time will now be at 3:30 instead of 3:00. Food services will end at the end of this week. Students will be sent home for lunches starting May 10 – May 19, from 11:45-12:45.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we end the Food Service Program this school year. We apologize for any inconveniences this may bring to you and your family. If you have any questions please call the office at 907-281-2210.
Dear Nanwalek parents and community,
KPBSD and Nanwalek school would like to notify you of a change in staffing for the upcoming school year. Mr. Crain has accepted another administrative position within KPBSD and will be moving from Nanwalek and will no longer be the Regional Principal of Nanwalek and Port Graham. Below is a message from Mr. Crain.
From Mr. Crain: “I want to thank the communities of Nanwalek and Port Graham for the time that I have had in their beautiful communities. It has been a pleasure to work with all of our students, staff, parents, community members, and Village Councils over the last three years. I will always cherish the time I have spent in both communities working with everyone. I am wishing the best for everyone in Nanwalek and Port Graham.”
KPBSD Leadership will be in touch with both communities soon to start the hiring process and gather community and staff input of what they would like to see in a new Principal.
Please follow this link to complete our annual Title 1 Survey.

Assistant Superintendent Clayton Holland requests help from KPBSD parents to plan for the school year beginning in August, through a brief intent to enroll survey, open through Friday, April 16, 2021.
When school begins in August, KPBSD will offer in-person learning at all 42 schools. Alaska has made
great strides with the pandemic, and while we are unable to predict the future, it is our intent that students and staff will not be required to wear masks or other face coverings next school year.
To help our schools plan, please answer the following questions on this short survey that is open April 5-16, This will help us prepare for the upcoming school year.
Thank you for your time,
Assistant Superintendent Clayton Holland (incoming Superintendent, July 1, 2021)
