-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Afterschool Programs<\/strong><br>Nikiski North Star offers a variety of afterschool opportunities to keep students engaged and active beyond the school day. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Intramural Sports<\/strong> \u2013 Offered in multiple seasons throughout the school year, intramurals promote participation, teamwork, and physical activity in a fun, supportive environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Boys and Girls Club \u2013 Kenai Clubhouse<\/strong> \u2013 Provides afterschool care and enrichment activities. This program is operated by the Boys and Girls Club-Students ride Bus 117 to the Kenai Clubhouse<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Girl Scouts<\/strong> \u2013 Encourages leadership, friendship, and service. This organization also rents space in our building to host meetings and events.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Good News Club<\/strong> \u2013 Offers students the opportunity to learn and grow through Bible lessons, songs, games, and valuable life lessons. This club is independently operated by CEF and rents facility space at NNS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These programs reflect our school community\u2019s commitment to supporting the whole child\u2014academically, socially, and physically\u2014while partnering with outside organizations that share our vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">iReady (Math)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The i-Ready Diagnostic data showed substantial growth from fall to spring, with many students moving closer to or above grade-level expectations. A total of 197 out of 210 students participated in the spring assessment window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students performing <strong>on or above grade level<\/strong> increased from <strong>13% in the fall to 54% in the spring<\/strong>, growing from 25 students to 106 students. Students performing <strong>Mid or Above Grade Level<\/strong> increased from <strong>5% to 28%<\/strong>, while students performing <strong>Early On Grade Level<\/strong> increased from <strong>8% to 26%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, the number of students requiring additional intervention decreased significantly. Students performing <strong>One Grade Level Below<\/strong> decreased from <strong>60% to 37%<\/strong>, students performing <strong>Two Grade Levels Below<\/strong> decreased from <strong>21% to 7%<\/strong>, and students performing <strong>Three or More Grade Levels Below<\/strong> decreased from <strong>7% to 3%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These results reflect strong academic growth across the school, with more students meeting grade-level expectations and fewer students requiring intensive intervention support. goal setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Family Resource Center<\/strong><br>\u2013 Provides games and educational activities for families to borrow, supporting learning and connection at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Communication<\/strong><br>\u2013 Uses the schoolwide platform <em>Bloomz<\/em> to keep families informed and engaged in their children\u2019s Together with our strong, supportive community, we strive to create an inspiring and nurturing environment where every student can thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Supporting a Positive and Safe School Environment at NNS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Nikiski North Star, we are committed to creating a school environment where every child feels safe, supported, and ready to learn. Over the past two years, we\u2019ve focused on building a positive school culture by teaching social-emotional skills and reinforcing positive behavior through schoolwide expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What We Focused On:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, we introduced tools like <em>Kelso\u2019s Choices<\/em>, <em>Zones of Regulation<\/em>, and <em>Second Step<\/em> to help students learn how to solve problems, manage emotions, and treat others with respect. We also began using Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to create clear behavior expectations across our school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What We Saw:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Office interaction data helps us monitor student behavior trends and evaluate how effectively we are supporting positive school culture and student well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Office Interaction Entries<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>2023\u20132024:<\/strong> 157 entries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2024\u20132025:<\/strong> 164 entries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2025\u20132026:<\/strong> 121 entries (as of May 19, 2026)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This reflects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <strong>22.9% decrease<\/strong> from 2023\u20132024 to 2025\u20132026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>26.2% decrease<\/strong> from 2024\u20132025 to 2025\u20132026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past year, we continued focusing on student wellbeing lessons, consistent schoolwide expectations, restorative conversations, and proactive student support. These efforts contributed to a significant reduction in office interactions across the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student perception data from the district\u2019s Student Climate and Mindset Survey also reflected positive trends:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>97%<\/strong> of students reported feeling safe at school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>89%<\/strong> said adults at school treat students with respect<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>86%<\/strong> said students try to help when another student is being picked on<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>94%<\/strong> said teachers care about their well-being<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These results demonstrate encouraging growth in both student behavior and school connectedness. We are proud of the positive culture our students, staff, and families continue building together at NNS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Students Are Saying:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2026 KPBSD Student Climate and Mindset Survey showed strong positive feedback from our students in grades 3\u20135 and highlighted continued growth in school connectedness, safety, and student mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2b50 96% of students said they are encouraged to do their best at school.<br>\u2b50 97% of students said they feel safe at school.<br>\u2b50 97% of students said they care about our school community.<br>\u2b50 94% said their teachers care about their well-being.<br>\u2b50 91% said they meet the goals their teachers set for them.<br>\u2b50 95% said they have goals for their future.<br>\u2b50 94% said they believe they will graduate from high school.<br>\u2b50 88% said they believe they can excel in all of their classes.<br>\u2b50 89% said adults at school treat students with respect.<br>\u2b50 86% said when another student is being picked on, students try to stop it.<br>\u2b50 83% said they think it is important to participate in community service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students also reported strong growth in instructional practices connected to deeper learning, including problem solving, evaluating sources, and making connections across subjects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These responses show that students feel supported, challenged, and connected at NNS.
