At Nikiski North Star Elementary, we believe growth and achievement matter. This year, our students made meaningful gains in reading and math, and we are excited to share some highlights with our families and community!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcca\ud83c\udf1f How Did We Do This Year at NNS? \ud83c\udf1f\ud83d\udcca<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcda What is the difference between growth and achievement?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Achievement shows how students are performing compared to grade-level expectations nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Growth shows how much progress students made over time, regardless of where they started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At NNS, we celebrate both! We are proud of students who are achieving at high levels and students who made tremendous progress throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcda K-2 Literacy Growth: mCLASS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our youngest Shooting Stars showed incredible progress in early reading skills this year through mCLASS and classroom instruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Students scoring Above Benchmark schoolwide increased from 18% to 36% by spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Students in the Well Below Benchmark category decreased from 33% to 21%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Kindergarten demonstrated especially impressive growth, with students Above Benchmark increasing from 7% to 44%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 First grade students nearly doubled the percentage of students At or Above Benchmark by the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Second grade students more than doubled the number of students scoring Above Benchmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These gains reflect the hard work students put into foundational reading skills each day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcd6 Grades 3-5 Reading Achievement: MAP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our intermediate students also demonstrated strong reading achievement on spring MAP assessments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 NNS students earned an overall 57th percentile in reading achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Nearly 44% of students scored in the 61st percentile or higher nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Grade 3 students earned an impressive 61st percentile overall in reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Grade 4 students achieved a strong 60th percentile overall in reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2795 Grades 3-5 Math Achievement: MAP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students also showed strong achievement in math across grade levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 NNS students earned an overall 60th percentile in math achievement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Half of our students scored in the 61st percentile or higher nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Grade 3 students achieved a 68th percentile overall in math.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Grade 4 students earned a strong 62nd percentile overall in math.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcc8 i-Ready Math Diagnostic Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our i-Ready Math Diagnostic data showed major growth toward grade-level expectations across the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Students performing on or above grade level increased from 13% in the fall to 54% in the spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2b50 Students performing mid or above grade level grew from 9 students to 55 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
