๐ Family Fun Night is next Thursday, 2/19! Hosted by KPBSD Federal Programs and open to ALL Seward families! You donโt need to be part of an Indigenous Ed program in order to come!
Come shake off the winter wiggles with an evening of food, fun, games, creativity, and connection. This is a true family night, not a โwalk-around-and-get-stuffโ event, so expect hands-on activities for kids, space to play, and time to visit with other families and school and community support staff in a relaxed way.
Bring the whole crew and come as you are. Weโd love to see you there! ๐๐๐จ๐งฉ
Hello! Just a reminder there is no school tomorrow or Friday, February 12th & 13th due to Student-Led conferences. We hope to see you here with your student for your conference tomorrow and wish you a happy, safe 4-day weekend! Just a reminder, the building will be locked from 1:00-2:00 tomorrow for our staff lunch. Thank you!
This week is National School Counseling Week! We proudly recognize and thank our school counselors for the vital role they play in supporting students every day. School counselors are trusted advocatesโhelping students navigate academic goals, social-emotional growth, and future planning, while partnering closely with families and staff.
Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt across our schools and communities. We are grateful for their dedication, compassion, and commitment to putting students first.
Please join us in celebrating our KPBSD school counselors and thanking them for the difference they makeโtoday and every day.
We love you Ms. Christy! Thank you for all you do!
A note for Kindergartener parents/guardians whose student rides a bus from First Student Location Manager, Tammy Lang:
I wanted to revisit the subject of parents walking kindergarteners to the door of the bus. While some parents are good about this, many stand a bus-length or more away, and many wait in their cars.
The latter can be particularly dangerous when we have a kindergartener who rides on more than one bus.
Just this month, there was a tragic story from Maine involving a kindergartener and a school bus. Such a tragedy is unimaginable. The space between a school bus and a parent is the most dangerous place a kindergarten student will find themselves on a daily instance; this is the reason that the district requires that parents close that gap by walking their students all the way to the door of the bus. You can see the relevant sections of the KPBSD Transportation guidelines quoted in my previous email below.
Thank you all, and a big kudos to those parents who already walk their students all the way to the bus.
Thanks for helping us keep the littlest ones safe.
The following is the section of transportation guidelines from the District website relating to transportation of kindergarten students.
Grade K students must be escorted to the bus in the morning and met at the bus door in the afternoon by their parent/guardian, approved alternate (middle school or older sibling, aunt/uncle, grandparent, etc.), or may be escorted directly from the bus by a sibling in Grade 4 or higher. No drops will be made at day care facilities that do not have personnel available to meet the child at the bus.
– If your kindergarten student is not met at the bus or the driver perceives a danger at the bus stop that prevents your older child being let off the bus at that time โ the following “Safe Haven” procedure will be followed.
o Driver will notify dispatch who the child is and where they should have gotten
off at. They will keep the child on board and continue with the run.
o Dispatch will make every reasonable effort to contact you at your primary or first designated emergency contact phone number before the bus is finished with the run.
o If they cannot speak with an adult to arrange a place to meet, we will transport the child to the Boys & Girls Clubhouse nearest their school* for Safe Haven shelter.
o You are responsible for contacting the Clubhouse and picking up your child before 6 PM.
Seward Club @ Seward TYC (907.224.5472) for Seward and Moose Pass students.
Thank you, and please reach out if you have any questions I can answer.

Hi All! Quick last reminder that PreK-2 Parent Collab Night is tonight, and weโd love to have you there!
PreKโ2 Parent Collaborative is a relaxed, supportive space to connect with other parents, share whatโs working (and whatโs hard), and build a few simple tools that help families thrive. Itโs prevention-minded in the best way: strengthening connection, routines, and support so things feel a little easier at home.
Tonightโs schedule: โข 5:15โ6:15 PM Parent Collab (PreKโ2) โข Childcare provided during the parent group โข 6:15โ7:00 PM Family-Style Dinner for you and your kiddos
Come as you are, even if itโs been a long day. No pressure to share, just a welcoming place to plug in, eat together, and feel a little more connected.
Spring Semester Lola Swanson will be working with some of our primary classes to teach dance and creative movement. This will culminate in a school performance in April. Stay tuned for recital dates this spring!
Big Thank You – Seward Artists in Schools program is made possible through generous support by Seward Community Foundation, Seward PTA and community supporters. Additionally, we are very grateful this year to have a dedicated arts space at the elementary school. Strong, collaborative relationships are what make our community schools.
Thereโs still time to join Session 2 of Beginner Youth Archery with our partners at SPRD! This class is a great introduction to archery fundamentals, focusing on safety, skill-building, and confidence in a fun, supportive environment.
If you know a young person whoโs been curious about archery, this is a great chance to jump in. Feel free to share!
