SMCS fills available spots using a lottery. Only students who have been selected and placed via lottery may be registered to attend SMCS. In person registration occurs from 9:00-2:30 the five days before the first day of school each year. Families may also choose to register online through PowerSchool.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The SMCS Waitlist is posted on the Monday following Spring Break, and is available online for 30 days. Please contact the school after this window with waitlist questions.

Application Verification<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Applications are not considered finalized and submitted without receiving a confirmation notification with a “Confirmation Timestamp”. The confirmation notification is your verification that the application has been received. If you do not receive a confirmation notification after completing an online application, please contact the school to finalize the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lottery applications are accepted from January through the last Friday of February, each school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kindergarten<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Enrollment via lottery is required for kindergarten placement. Prospective kindergarten students who meet KPBSD Board Policy (BP 5111) requirements or have completed the process requirements outlined in KPBSD Administrative Regulation (AR 5111) may apply for the lottery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siblings of current SMCS students do not need to enter the lottery due to \u201csibling preference\u201d, but a sibling lottery may be necessary if the number of kindergarten siblings exceeds the number of available kindergarten spaces.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Permanent List \u2013 Lottery Placement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Students who are drawn through the lottery process are placed on a permanent list for potential placement based on openings that may occur. Students who are on this list do not need to go through the lottery process in subsequent years, and retain their position as subsequent lotteries are added to the existing permanent list. If an offer to fill a position is made by the school and is refused by the family, the list placement is forfeited and the student is removed from the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Temporary List \u2013 Wait List Placement<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Students who miss the lottery enrollment deadline may choose to complete a wait list application. Students on a wait list are only considered for placement after the permanent lottery placement list for a grade level has been exhausted. Wait list students are NOT automatically included for the next lottery; families must complete a lottery application in time for the next lottery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sibling Enrollment – Key Info<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sibling enrollments are handled separately from the regular Lottery with our Enrollment Questionnaire supplied in February each year to existing students\/families which is distributed via email. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students eligible for “Sibling Preference” will be placed when space is available in their grade level, and prior to students who are on the lottery list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the number of siblings at a grade level exceeds the number of available spaces, a separate “sibling lottery “will be held for that grade level to determine priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vacancies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

SMCS will occasionally have vacated seats to fill. SMCS fills vacated seats from June through October. SMCS will fill from the priority Lottery Waitlist first, and then from the Temporary Waitlist if the Lottery Waitlist for a grade is exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SMCS considers a seat vacated after receiving a completed SMCS Withdrawal Form, after receiving records request for a student from another district or school, or after 10 days of consecutive unexcused absences (non contact) as required by the State of Alaska mandating schools to drop a student from enrollment.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
