Advocacy and awareness:
One of the most impactful actions people can do to support students and families experiencing housing insecurity/homelessness is to spread awareness and understanding about the issue and available services. These efforts help reduce stigma and help ensure students and families who are eligible for services receive the assistance they need.
Gift cards for goods
and services:
According to the most recent statistic from Feeding America, the child (18 years and younger) food insecurity rate in Alaska is 18.1%. Gift cards to local restaurant, grocery stores, and general store gift cards help address this need, as well as other services that grant funds cannot support.
Monetary donations:
The SIT Program has a donations account dedicated solely to the SIT Program, with 100% of funds going directly to student need (no staffing, overhead, etc.). Funds can be given through cash or check (made out to KPBSD Students in Transition Program), or by utilizing the online system (click below).
*Please note for all electronic donations, a small service fee will be added.
Specific supply drives:
If you want to know what current needs are or have a specific project in mind, contact your local area Liaison*. There may be a particular need for a tangible item, service, or event that you can help support.
*Please contact your local Liaison prior to planning a drive or project, to confirm need and to ensure coordination is possible.
Thank you for your interest in helping support local children and youth experiencing homelessness on the Kenai.
