What is KPBSD doing?
Be assured that the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District is communicating closely with the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED), and the Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management, to continually refine our pandemic preparedness and operation plans. In the event of a suspected or confirmed case in the area, we follow the state and CDC guidance to ensure we take every step possible to keep our students, staff, and community safe and slow the spread of COVID-19.
KPBSD School Nurses
Our nursing supervisor is in contact with school nurses and schools to provide the latest COVID-19 information, screening requirements, symptoms, and actions to take in the event there is a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus or COVID-19 in a school. In addition, supplies and resources needed by planning and operations have been inventoried, ordered, and are available for the needs to safely operate schools.
The best thing everyone can do to slow the spread of any virus is to stay healthy, and practice normal precautions during flu season. This not only benefits you, but also the people around you, especially those who may be at higher risk (elderly neighbors, people with chronic illness, etc.) If your child has a fever of 100 or greater or is sick, that indicates it is time to stay home from school. The KPBSD Symptom Free Protocol is in effect on our schools.
Everyone is asked to continue healthy behaviors like frequent handwashing with soap and water for 20 seconds (suds your hands the length of time it takes to sing happy birthday or a,b,c,d,e,f,g… to yourself), cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze, and use a household cleaner on flat surfaces that you touch often.
