Engagement matters

Each year school communities are asked to create a school development plan. Understandably, not many school stakeholders take part. Let’s face it, meetings are not terribly exciting, especially when we’re busy. For some a school development plan is a wish list. In a way it is, but more accurately it is a set of goals. Goals are great and necessary, but the real task is how do we achieve them? For example, we may say one of our goals is to improve the reading scores of all of our students. Sounds great, and we should. But how does that happen? Is that an expectation we place solely on the teacher and the school? Does the community have a role in helping meet that goal? If so, how?

Upcoming will be opportunities to be a part of that conversation. Determining a needs assessment for Title I and creating a school development plan for Susan B English will be scheduled in the weeks ahead. We welcome your help in planning for the future of our school.
