There’s a deep-rooted sense of interconnectedness, where everyone contributes to the collective learning experience, making the school feel like an extended family.

The community values the local subsistence lifestyle, integrating traditional knowledge and practices into the curriculum, which enriches students’ education and strengthens ties to their cultural heritage. This unique approach not only honors local traditions but also provides hands-on learning experiences that are relevant to students’ lives and the community.

A growth mindset is also a core value at Port Graham. Students and staff are encouraged to embrace challenges, view mistakes as learning opportunities, and pursue continuous improvement. This mindset is cultivated across all grade levels, promoting resilience, adaptability, and a shared commitment to personal and academic growth. Together, these elements create a school culture that is supportive, culturally connected, and focused on the holistic development of each individual.

Family and Community Engagements/Highlights

Port Graham School emphasizes community and family engagement as a vital part of its educational approach, fostering a warm and inclusive environment through various family-centered events and activities. These initiatives allow families to connect with the school, support student learning, and strengthen bonds within the community.

Meet the Teacher Events provide an initial opportunity for families to familiarize themselves with teachers, discuss classroom goals, and build foundational relationships that support students throughout the year.

Meals with the Principal invite families to share a casual meal with the school principal, offering a relaxed space for open dialogue, community-building, and direct feedback on school initiatives.

Family Resource Center acts as a supportive hub, providing families with resources, information, and tools to assist in their children’s educational journey and access to services that support overall family well-being.

Beach Party and Family Nights are fun, community-focused gatherings where families can enjoy activities together. These events celebrate the strong community spirit and provide a platform for families to engage in school life in a social, welcoming atmosphere.

Together, these engagement opportunities reinforce the school’s commitment to building a collaborative, family-oriented culture that values and supports every member of the Port Graham community.
