Home of the Silvers!

We are truly honored to meet the instructional needs of 6th through 8th grade students and serve the communities of the Eastern Kenai Peninsula.   Seward Middle generally has a student population of about 150 students. Our class sizes are usually 25 students or less with fewer students in our lower grades. We have a music and art program and students have access to 5 intra-Borough Sports—cross-county, Boys and Girls Soccer, Wrestling, Volleyball, Boys and Girls Basketball and Track and Field.  We have two competitive Battle of the Books Teams, Geo Bee, Mathletes  We believe that it is our responsibility to personalize, adjust, and adapt to meet all of the needs of the students we serve.

Mount Marathon Race

The men’s and women’s course is a grueling 1.5-mile climb up, and back down, Alaska’s majestic and treacherous Mount Marathon. Runners from around the world join Seward residents and runners from around Alaska, in pursuit of a common goal: to win, place, or simply complete this iconic footrace.

Mount Marathon awaits you, and future generations of bold mountain runners!

2021 Alaska History Teacher of the Year!

Myla Liljemark has been named the 2021 Alaska History Teacher of the Year, an award presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to K-12 American history education.

In 2021, parents, students, teachers, and administrators nationwide nominated a record 8,510 teachers for the History Teacher of the Year Award.  Amidst a very competitive field, Myla Liljemark rose to the top in Alaska.

Inaugurated in 2004, the History Teacher of the Year Awards highlights the crucial importance of history education by honoring exceptional American history teachers from elementary school through high school.  The award honors one K-12 teacher from each state, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools and US Territories.  In fall 2021, the National History Teacher of the Year will be selected form the pool of state winners.

In addition to a $1000 honorarium, our school will receive a core archive of American history books and Gilder Lehrman educational materials and recognition at a ceremony in Alaska.
