At Seward Middle School, we want to make sure we provide every opportunity for students to grow as learners and be the best version of themselves. Building skills, maintaining skills and learning through hands on experiences is a big focus for the Silvers. We have 3 periods a day to working on those skills.
- What I Need (WIN) Class- this class is curtailed to each individual student’s needs in order to be successful. This is a Tiered approach to interventions for students
- Advisory Class- This class is to help students build relationships with a trusted adult and peers, and to support their social, emotional, and civic learning
- Exploratory Class- Teachers hold classes that shares a skill the teacher has with the students. This changes from quarter to quarter and we have had class titles such as: Outdoors Class, Strings with Ukuleles, Coding, Board Games, Plants of Alaska, Robotics, and Home Economics Class
- Salmon in the classroom- Students learn about the life cycle of the salmon by raising them in the school. We have two classes with tanks

School Culture Highlights
At our school, we are proud to foster a positive and inclusive environment where every student and staff member feels valued and supported. Here are a few highlights of what makes our school culture exceptional:
Student-Centered Approach
Our students are at the heart of everything we do. From individualized learning plans to student recognition programs like Student of the Month, we celebrate student achievements and work to meet their diverse needs, both academically and personally. We focus on nurturing every student’s strengths and passions.
Collaborative and Supportive Staff
Our teachers and staff work as a cohesive team to ensure the success of every student. The school encourages open communication and collaboration, whether it’s through professional development or everyday interactions between teachers, administration, and support staff like Jessica Bamford, our exemplary librarian.
Community Involvement
We pride ourselves on the strong relationships we’ve built with the community. Through partnerships with local businesses, students get to engage with real-world experiences that expand their learning beyond the classroom. Our goal is to create well-rounded students who understand their role in the wider community.
Focus on Literacy and Lifelong Learning
Reading and critical thinking are at the core of our school’s academic mission. Thanks to the dedication of a staff that brings a love of literature to every classroom, our students have countless opportunities to engage with diverse books, learn about different cultures, and explore new ideas.
Positive Recognition and Growth
We believe that recognition inspires growth. Programs such as Employee of the Month and our consistent acknowledgment of student achievements help reinforce the positive behaviors and achievements that contribute to a thriving school culture. We actively celebrate both academic and personal growth, ensuring that everyone feels a sense of accomplishment.
Inclusive Learning Environment
Our school is committed to inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that every student—regardless of background—feels welcome and valued. We emphasize respect, empathy, and kindness, and our curriculum reflects a global perspective that prepares students for success in an interconnected world.
By continuously striving to build a culture that is student-focused, collaborative, and rooted in community, we ensure that every member of our school feels a sense of belonging and pride.
