Great Giveback: Homeless Bag Challenge

Dear KMS Parents and Students,

It’s time for our annual Sources of Strength “Great Giveback: Homeless Bag Challenge”!

From Monday, November 3rd through Friday, November 14th, we’ll be collecting items to create care bags for members of our local community experiencing homelessness.

This is a grade-level competition, and each completed bag earns your grade 1 point. You can track your grade’s progress daily — everyone now has access to view the live tally sheet during advisory!

🎯 Drop-Off Details:

When: First thing each morning (Nov 3–14)

Where: Front Office

Label: Be sure to mark items with your name and grade

Who Benefits: All donations stay local, supporting organizations like OCS, LeeShore Center, Love INC, and the Food Bank

🏆 Competition Reward:

The grade with the most completed bags wins a Root Beer/Soda Float Party on Monday, November 17th during lunch!

💡 Teacher Involvement Matters:

Our students look to you for motivation and momentum! In past years, teachers have boosted participation with creative incentives — extra credit, assignment passes, bonus points — the sky is the limit! Your enthusiasm and encouragement truly make or break this campaign’s success.

❤️ Why It Matters:

This challenge is more than a competition — it’s a chance to show compassion, build community, and live out the Generosity slice of our Sources of Strength wheel. Every single bag we create offers comfort, hope, and dignity to someone right here in our own community.

Let’s make this year’s Great Giveback our strongest one yet! Together, we can turn kindness into action and generosity into strength.

With Gratitude,

Your KMS Sources of Strength Team

RED RIBBON WEEK 10/27-10/31

Hey KMS! Get ready to kick off Red Ribbon Week on Monday! 🌟

Monday, we’re starting the week with the theme: You’ll Never See Me Doing Drugs — I’m Dressed in Camo!’ 🪖
Dig out your camouflage clothes and get ready to show that you’re standing strong and making healthy, drug-free choices.

Tuesday’s theme is Swap Out Drugs for a Better Life!’ — Teachers will be dressed like students, and students will be dressed like teachers. 👕👩‍🏫
Just like we’re swapping clothes, we can swap out bad choices for better ones. Instead of turning to drugs or alcohol, choose things that lift you up — like sports, music, friends, or helping others.

Wednesday we’re saying Wear Red to Show You’re RED-y to Live a Drug-Free Life! ❤️ The brighter your red outfit, the stronger your commitment to staying drug-free!

Thursday’s theme is Twins Don’t Let Twins Do Drugs!’ 👯 Grab a friend and dress alike — twins, triplets, or just matching buddies —

Show that sticking together means supporting each other in making healthy, drug-free choices.

Plus, if you bring a small piece of yellow material (just 2×2 inches, new or used, like an old t-shirt) for the yellow “positive friendship” pillow, you’ll get a sweet treat at lunch!

Friday,Life is more FUN drug free!’  Wear your school appropriate Halloween costumes!

All week there will be treats, games at lunch time and prizes!  Let’s celebrate Red Ribbon Week and commit to a drug free life!

A NOTE FROM NURSE DIXIE

Dear Kenai Middle School Families,

Welcome to a new school year! I’m excited to join you and support your student’s health and wellness throughout the year. As the school nurse, my goal is to ensure your student has a safe and healthy environment to learn and thrive in.

To help us prepare for a smooth start, please review the following important health-related reminders and requirements:

🔄Annual Health Forms – Required Each School Year

If your student has any of the following conditions, please make sure the appropriate form is completed and returned to the nurse’s office each year Prior to 1st day of school:

  • Seizure Action Plan
  • Asthma Action Plan
  • Allergy/Anaphylaxis Plan
  • Diabetes Management Plan
  • Religious Exemption Form (must be notarized)

Forms can be accessed through the link provided below or you may stop by for a copy:

💊 Medication at School

If your student needs to take daily medication at school:

  • The medication must be brought in by a parent/guardian.
  • It must be in the original pharmacy-labeled container and not expired.
  • A Medication Authorization Form must be signed by both the parent/guardian and the healthcare provider before any medication can be administered at school.

💉 Immunizations

If your student received any immunizations over the summer, please be sure to submit updated records to the school prior to the first day of school.

🩺 Physical Exams – Required for New Students

If your student is new to the district, a physical exam is required before attending classes. Please provide documentation to the school nurse as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, need help locating a form, or would like to speak with me directly, feel free to contact the nurse’s office. I look forward to a safe, healthy, and successful school year with you and your student!

To all of you, Thank you so much for your patience, understanding and support of Kenai Middle School. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the office at 907-283-1700.

KMS Soccer Parents/Guardians

Parents and Guardians,

In past years, KMS has tried not to make cuts to student athletes in our soccer program.  Due to the large number of students, we adopted a new plan for placing students on teams.  KPSAA (the governing body for sports/activities within the district) policy states that 7th and 8th graders will have priority in making teams and 6th graders will fill teams as needed.  According to the policy if any cuts are made, they would have to come from 6th grade participants.

To avoid having to cut athletes, we have a new system in place.  The teams are structured as follows:

Starting Monday, all 6th graders will begin an intramural soccer program.  It will run Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday until 4:00pm.  Coaches will evaluate athletic performance and determine which 6th graders will complete the 2 KMS Co-ed B Teams.  Any 6th grader who does not make a B Team will remain in the intramural program for the remainder of the soccer season.  The intramural program fee is $25.

KMS Boys A and KMS Girls A Teams were posted Friday Morning 8/25 and consist of 7th & 8th Graders.  All other 7th & 8th graders will continue to practice daily and will be split evenly in to two KMS co-ed B Teams.  Practice for A and B Teams will be every day from 2:30-4:00pm and the fee is $60.

– Practice for 6th grade intramurals is Monday-Wednesday from 2:30-4:00pm.

– The 6th grade intramural fee is $25.

– Practice for A and B teams is Monday-Friday from 2:30-4:00pm.

– A and B Team fees are $60.

We are proud of our student athlete level of participation, and we will strive to continue to provide opportunities for our students!

Thank you for your patience and understanding,

KMS Soccer Coaches
