8th Grade Farewell is Friday, May 13th at 8:00am. Come celebrate your 8th graders promotion from middle school to high school. Punch and cake to follow the ceremony. Go Kossacks!

Attention current KMS 7th graders!!

There will be an informational meeting on Thursday, March 24th, 2022 at 5pm in the Kenai Middle Library for next year’s Washington D.C. trip! This meeting is open to all current KMS 7th grade students and their parents. We had an amazing time this year, and can’t wait to share the opportunity with the next group of students!

Track season is just around the corner.  All students are welcome to join the track team.  There will be an informational meeting on Monday, March 28^th after school.  If you have already done a sport this year, stop by the office and let us know you would like to do track! If you have not done a sport this year, pick up a sports packet from the office or print one from our webpage.  Practices will take place afterschool until 4pm daily and start date is weather dependent.  There is a $60 fee.

Spring Pictures at KMS are on Wednesday, March 16^th.  Pictures can be ordered online or you can pick up a picture packet in the office!

This Friday, March 4th is the end of the 3rd quarter and it is an in-service day for staff. 

There is no school for students. 

It is also the start of Spring Break 3/7 – 3/13! Enjoy your break, we will see you back at school on March 14^th.

The KMS Fine Arts concert will take place Tuesday, March 1st at 7:00 at the KCHS auditorium. 

The concert will feature the 3^rd quarter 6^th grade music class, 7^th and 8^th grade choir, the drama class, and the KMS concert band. We will see you there!! Go Kossacks!

It’s time to think about 6th grade intramurals. 6th grade intramural volleyball and basketball are an introduction to the sports and the coaches here at KMS!

Intramurals are open to boys and girls, 6th grade only! You must have a sports packet on file to participate. If you have already played a sport this year, stop by the office and let us know you would like to participate in intramurals. If you have not played a sport this year, stop by the office and grab a sports packet! There is no fee. Practices are after school.

KMS is hosting conferences Thursday, February 17^th and Friday, February 18^th.  There is no school for students.

Thursday, February 17^th is Arena Style Conferences.  Stop by KMS on Thursday from 12:00-4:00pm or 5:00pm-7:00pm to speak with your student’s teachers.  You do not need an appointment on Thursday during conference times.  Teachers will be available in the gym and the commons.

Friday, February 18^th is Conferences By Appointment.  If you are unable to meet with your teachers Thursday, you may click on the link below and schedule a conference with your child’s teacher on Friday.  Please follow the link and chose the teacher you wish to meet with.

Beginning on Friday, January 21, 2022, schools across the District will implement a 90-minute early release day every Friday (except for Fridays already scheduled for Parent/Teacher Conferences or In-service) until Spring Break.  At that time, we will evaluate the value of the early release days through staff and parent surveys, and student data. In addition, the currently scheduled Wednesday early release days will shift to Friday.

Volleyball will start Tuesday, January 4^th.  There will be a short meeting after school to collect sports packet and fees, and then practice will follow.  Volleyball is open to 7th and 8th grade girls.

Practice is over at 4:30.  The fee for volleyball is $60.

Wrestling will start with an informational meeting after school on Wednesday, January 5^th.  The meeting is after school and will run until 3:15. Wrestling is open to all students.

Save the date! The KMS Winter Choir Concert will take place at 7 PM on Tuesday, December 14th. at the KCHS auditorium. It will feature the 7th and 8th grade choirs and 2nd quarter 6th grade music students.

Our KMS canned food drive begins today, and runs December 6^th – 16^th.  Our canned food drive is a competition, to see which student and which grade level can donate the most canned food to help our local families!  Prizes are as follows:

The KMS/KCHS Bands concert/Dessert Auction is this Thursday, December 2nd, at 7PM. Beginning Band/Intermediate Band Students need to arrive at the KCHS Auditorium entrance no later than 5:30pm. KMS Concert Band students should arrive no later than 6:00pm. Dress for the concert is Holiday ugly/tacky sweater, black dress pants (or long black skirt for girls), black socks, and ALL BLACK dress shoes. No high heels or open toed shoes.Doors will open for concert attendees at 6:45pm.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break. There will be NO SCHOOL Thursday the 25th and Friday the 26th in observance of Thanksgiving.

After School Tutorial will be offered from 2:35 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to a limited number of students.  This program is in addition to the regular school day and will focus on lessons assigned to students in their core classrooms.  We will be completing assignments, concentrating on developing successful study skills and participating in goal setting.

Since space is limited, we are offering this on a “first come, first serve” basis and teacher input.  Once this program is filled, we will start a waiting list.  Students missing more than 3 afternoon sessions are subject to being dropped from this program.  If your student will miss a tutoring session, please call the office to excuse him/her.  This program will start on Tuesday, November 9^th, 2021 and end on Wednesday, March 2^nd 2022.  Snacks will be available for students in the afterschool program and limited transportation will be provided.

If you are interested, please fill out the tutoring form and return it to the office before your student participates.

Today 11/1 ~ Permission slip packets will be available for pick up at the office

Tomorrow 11/2 ~ Turn in permission slip and $10 fee first thing in the morning.

6th graders turn in slip and $10 fee to Mrs. McCown in the 6th grade hallway.

7th & 8th graders turn slip & $10 fee to Mrs. Newton.

The first 45 students (for each day) to return the form & $10 fee get to go.

Spots fill up quickly, so make sure to arrange a ride to school on Tuesday, November 2nd, and turn everything in as soon as you get to school!

Next week is Red Ribbon Week! We will have lots of fun activities about living a healthy, drug-free life!

Kenai Middle School’s first Site Council meeting will be
held on Tuesday, October 19th @ 5:00pm in the KMS
library. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Wow! Hard to believe we are a quarter into school already, time flies when you are having fun! As the Leadership Coordinator, it was so exciting to have such a successful Activity Night. We had 240 students attend, and fun was had by all. Our next Activity Night is tentatively scheduled for December 10th. More information to come!
All 6th graders will receive new schedules at the start of 2nd Quarter. Most students will have a different afternoon exploratory class.
ALL students will receive new schedules following the Winter Break, on January 4th. 7th and 8th grade students will be allowed to access their 2nd Semester Schedules in December, so they can make Schedule Change Requests before the Winter Break.
Lastly, KMS has been selected to participate in the NAEP Assessment (National Assessment of Educational Progress). This assessment affects only select 8th graders, and will take place on January 26th, 2022. More information will be forthcoming, as we get nearer the assessment date.

Our KMS lost and found is full. There are school wide lost and found outside Mr. Tilly’s office and in the commons. Girls and Boys PE also have a lost and found that is full. Please take a look in lost and found to claim your items. Quarterly, the lost and found will be cleaned out! Take a look now, before it’s gone!

Kenai Middle School students and millions of people worldwide will practice how to duck, cover and hold at 10:21 a.m. on October 21st during the Great Alaska Shake Out! In an effort to maintain preparedness in the event of an earth quake.!

Friday, October 15^th is an in-service day! It is the end of quarter and there is no school for students.

Thursday, October 14^th is our first KMS Band concert of the year! 7:00pm at the KCHS Auditorium.  Mark your calendars! We’ll see you there! This performance includes Concert and Intermediate Bands.

Wednesday October 13^th is Fall Picture Retakes.  If you were absent on picture day please report to the library, when paged. 

If you would like to retake your picture, bring your old pictures to the library with you!

Next week 10/4 – 10/8, Girls will practice early from 2:30-4:00. Boys will go to study hall 2:30-4:00 and have practice 4:00-5:30.

Attention 8th Graders! If you are interested in being a future Kardinal football player join us this Friday, September 17^th  for a VIP opportunity @ KCHS! Future Kards will meet at the cage before taking the field.  Please be there no later than 5:15 PM. Future Kard Footballers will receive a free Kardinal Football t-shirt and a VIP sideline pass to support the team on the field during the varsity game. 

Wednesday, September 15^th is an early release day! Students will be dismissed at 12:57.  There will be no sports practices on Early Release days and there will be no 6^th grade swimming unit.

KMS will be starting our swim unit on Sept. 7^th. 

We will be taking our 8^th  hour PE class on Monday and Wednesday and our 9^th hour PE classes Tuesday and Thursday.  6^th graders please be prepared and bring your swimsuit in ASAP. Please label everything with your name.  Swimsuits are due no later than September 3rd.

We will not have swimming on the 15^th due to an early release.
