Intervention Support
Intervention supports at Nikolaevsk School include Boost, iReady Reading, iReady Math, NWEA MAP. Additional help from Paraprofessionals and Title I Tutor offer targeted assistance to students needing academic support.
Paraprofessionals and Title I Tutors work closely with students, offering additional support during and after school hours to ensure that every learner can reach grade-level expectations.
After-school programs provide extra practice and tutoring opportunities for students needing further reinforcement.
Title I Family Engagement Nights and Workshops are essential for building strong partnerships between families and the school, providing parents with tools to support their children’s learning at home. This collaborative approach ensures that students receive well-rounded support, both academically and through active family involvement to help them achieve success.
Academics Assessment
MAP – Math
Based on the 2023-2024 NWEA MAP scores for grades 4-10, 13% of our students came into the 2024-2025 school year performing at an advanced level, showing a deep understanding of the material. Half of our students (50%) are meeting grade-level expectations, which means they are on track with their learning goals. Additionally, 38% of our students would benefit from some extra support to reach their full potential, and we are committed to providing the resources and guidance they need to succeed.
MAP – ELA
Based on the 2023-2024 NWEA MAP scores for grades 5-11, 38% of our students came into 2024-2025 school year meeting the expected standards in English Language Arts (ELA), meaning they are performing at a proficient level for their grade. Additionally, 63% of our students are approaching this level, indicating they are making progress and are on their way to proficiency

Dual credit is available through the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS), Sitka, for the Fisheries of Alaska course (during the second semester of the Marine Biology class)

Focusing on a balance of social-emotional growth, academic focus, and community building, Nikolaevsk School-wide projects and initiatives include:

Nikolaevsk School has earned a variety of honors over the years, including being named a National Title I Distinguished School in 2015 for its success in improving student performance and closing the achievement gap.

Course Offering Highlights
Grades 6-12
- Marine Biology & Fisheries Management: Delivered via blended learning from Nikolaevsk in partnership with Susan B. English School in Seldovia, this program combines direct instruction, experiential learning, and projects that promote a deep understanding of global issues and fish management in Alaska
- Social Studies: Also delivered via blended learning from Seldovia in partnership with Nikolaevsk School, this program blends direct instruction, projects, and experiences that encourage social responsibility
- Career Exploration: Provides students with insights into various career paths and opportunities, and experiential hands-on experiences
- Passion Projects (PBL): Student-driven projects that allow learners to explore their interests and passions through hands-on, real-world experiences
- Specialist Units: Focused training in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Design equipping students with essential skills for academic and professional success
