We made it through the 2020/2021 school year and to paraphrase Jerry Garcia, “what a long strange trip it’s been”. From March of 2020 through this May, we navigated mandates and Covid19 mitigation plans a plenty. At times, it seemed like the school year went on forever. Thankfully, most of us were untouched by the virus. Some of us caught the virus, but gratefully had very mild symptoms. Sadly, a few members of our Nikolaevsk School family suffered the loss of a loved one. Others have friends or loved ones who are still dealing with the damage the virus caused to their bodies. We are all looking forward to a better, brighter, and healthier 2021/2022 school year.
This past year with all of its weirdness was not all bad, however. We learned a lot about what is important. We learned how to be flexible. We learned more about all the different ways children can learn and we learned how to better meet the needs of the individual student and family.
One thing we missed out on this past year and a half were field trip experiences for the kids. I know the students missed being able to take some these trips. This next year we are planning on making up for this loss, getting our students as many educational and fun field trips as we can afford.
We are looking forward to the 2021/2022 school year to take the lessons we learned in the past year to better meet the learning needs of individual students. We are hopeful that much of the flexibility we were afforded this past year and a half can be carried forward to create more options for our Nikolaevsk families and students.
I am hopeful much of the Covid19 pandemic is behind us and next school year will blossom into a better “normal”.
