Positive Responses to Conflict Wheel

Mountain View’s longest running positive school climate activity is our Positive Responses to Conflict Program or, as students call it, the conflict wheel. Recognizing that students in conflict (whether with fellow students, teachers or family members) cannot learn, Mountain View staff developed the conflict wheel and grade level lessons to support it.

Why are kids excited to come to our school?

The answer at Mountain View is “Kindness Counts”. While respect is often the “go to” theme for school-wide expectations, our staff feels that kindness is indeed a step up in this area, as it reaches a deeper emotional level. We specifically teach lessons on kindness at all grade levels, recognize kind acts, celebrate kindness, and engage in activities both in and out of school to promote kindness throughout the school year.

Welcome to a new year at Mountain View Elementary, Kenai’s Neighborhood School! Once again, we are starting the year off with a heavy focus on our school climate goals of kindness and positive responses to conflict. Teaching and modeling these core values early as well as continually throughout the year provide our students with an emotionally safe environment in which to learn. At Mountain View, we like to say “Kindness Rules.”
