📖 Academic Intervention at Mountain View

Mountain View Elementary is committed to supporting the success of every student through high-quality, targeted instruction. Our trained interventionists work closely with students to strengthen literacy skills using evidence-based practices grounded in the Science of Reading.

Classroom teachers are also trained in intervention strategies for both literacy and math, ensuring consistent, responsive support across all grade levels. Intervention services are delivered through the RTI (Response to Intervention) framework, allowing us to provide timely and effective help based on student needs.

🏅 Intramural Sports and Afterschool Programs

Mountain View Elementary offers a vibrant intramural sports program where students can participate in soccer, basketball, and volleyball throughout the school year. Our program collaborates with other district schools to host games that promote sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Beyond athletics, students have access to a variety of afterschool activities, including student leadership opportunities and participation in the Battle of the Books competition, fostering literacy skills and teamwork.

Students are recognized for showing kindness and being helpful through the Soaring Eagle feather program. As the only open-enrollment school in Kenai, Mountain View welcomes all students and ensures an education tailored to their individual needs. 📊 School Climate and Mindset Key Data

The 2024 Climate and Mindset Survey at Mountain View Elementary reflects a strong, supportive school environment. An overwhelming 98% of students report caring about their community, 91% feel their teachers genuinely care about their well-being, and 90% feel encouraged to do their best. These results underscore our culture of motivation and appreciation.

Overall school climate remains positive, with 89% of students stating that adults treat them with respect, 88% feeling the school is welcoming to them and their families, and over 83% feeling safe and treated fairly. Mountain View remains committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and secure environment for all.

Social-emotional learning plays a vital role in our school community. Eighty-six percent of students report learning to respect differing opinions, 82% feel they get along well with peers from diverse backgrounds, and nearly 80% celebrate each other’s successes—demonstrating the strength of our focus on empathy, relationship-building, and life skills.

The survey also highlights students’ strong sense of purpose and optimism: 91% report working hard toward their goals, 90% believe they will graduate from high school, and nearly 90% understand their strengths and challenges while actively setting goals. Mountain View students are confident, motivated, and well-prepared for future success.

🎯 Goals for the Year

  1. By May 2025, we will ensure that 70 percent of 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students who are present for 90% or more of the school year will score above the 21st percentile in NWEA MAP Reading; 70% of Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students who are present for 90% or more of the school year will perform at or above benchmark on their mCLASS Composite score by May 2025.
  2. By May 2025, we will ensure that 70 percent of all students who are present for 90% or more of the school year fall in the tier I placement (on or above grade level) on their Spring i-Ready diagnostic assessment.
  3. By May 2025, all instructional staff will be trained in the Zones of Regulation and will consistently implement the curriculum with their class at least once per week.
