Things to Remember as We Welcome Back Students on September 8th!

Important Points as we welcome students in person to Nikiski North Star on September 8?

We are so excited to welcome you to school, but we need your help to keep everyone safe. If you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms* stay home, and do not go to school or report to work:
• Temperature of 100 or greater
• Cough or Sore Throat

NNS is a symptom free school. Please evaluate your child each morning for any signs related to Covid or any other illness. If your child is showing any signs of illness, they cannot be physically present at school. They can, however, continue their learning through NNS remote learning. Please contact your child’s teacher if they need to attend NNS remote due to illness.

Arrival
• School starts at NNS at 9:25, students cannot be dropped off before 9:15 as the morning is teacher planning time.
• Parents should use the parent drop off lane to drop off students. Please have students kissed and ready to exit the car on the passenger side of the vehicle.
• Bus riders will go through the playground gate and enter through the primary door for grades K-2 and the gym door for grades 3-5
• Students will go directly to their classrooms when they enter the school. Students needing breakfast will check in with their teacher and then get breakfast from the cafeteria.

Lunch
• Nikiski North Star students will eat lunch in their classrooms.
• KPBSD has adapted a new charge policy for breakfast/lunch. If you want your student to be able to charge full pay breakfast/lunch or reduced price breakfast/lunch parents must give approval for that in the Powerschool Student Update Form.
• Due to Covid restrictions, microwaves will not be available for students. Please make sure that your child has a lunch which does not require use of a microwave.

Dismissal
• Parent pick up students will be dismissed starting at 3:20 pm. Please use the parent pickup lane and have your family name visible on the dashboard. Busses will be using the through lane so please make sure that your child can enter the vehicle on the passenger side.
• Students attending Boys and Girls Club must be pre-registered for Boys and Girls Club. There will be no drop in attendance at Boys and Girls Club this year. If you have questions related to B&G please call them directly at 776-2668.
• Students need to have a regular after school schedule and that schedule should be communicated with the classroom teacher. If there is going to be a change from the regular schedule the teacher will need a written note from the parent/guardian. Please limit calls to the office for a change in plans due to emergency circumstances.
