Message from our Principal

Welcome to West Homer Elementary School! You will notice many things have changed, one being this monthly school newsletter format that will be emailed directly to you each month. I will be providing some basic information that you will need for each month.

I know there is a tremendous amount of uncertainly out there about how school will operate this fall. There is anxiety around our children wearing masks in school, the possibility of our child getting sick, having to switch to remote learning if our region experiences a spike in cases of Covid-19. I want you to know we have been working diligently to clearly define protocols and procedures, and organize how we will deliver instruction and build community in this new environment. There are too many different scenarios out there to think of all of them. I would encourage you to take all the required and necessary precautions so that you can make a choice that best fits your family. Your choice is the right one at this time and we will work with each of you to meet your needs to the best of our ability.

We have a number of fabulous new staff members with a diverse range of skills and backgrounds joining us this year. I am confident we have the right team in place to build this new system. Please welcome them to our West Homer Elementary community!

Since school will look different than what we are accustomed to, I urge you to keep an open mind and heart, communicate with us often, and know that we can do this together. We learned many things from last spring and we have adjusted our school plan based on that feedback. Thank you for being understanding and patient, and giving us all (parents, children, and staff) grace as we navigate this together one day at a time.

I look forward to working with all of you this year, and thank you for entrusting us with your children. It is truly an honor.
