At Nikiski North Star Elementary, we believe Alaska’s most precious resource isn’t what lies beneath the ground—it’s the children we are privileged to educate every day. Legislative decisions directly impact our classrooms, shaping the programs, staffing, and support systems that help our students thrive.
Our District directly relies on funding from the Kenai Peninsula Borough and State. The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District faces a $17 million budget deficit. Without sustainable education funding, the district is considering significant reductions, including increased class sizes, the elimination of elementary school counseling positions, and cuts to programs such as Quest, middle school reading, and student support services. These changes would be felt deeply in every school—including ours.
As I shared during recent public testimony, investing in education is not a cost—it’s a commitment to the future of our communities and our children. We encourage all families to stay informed and engaged.
