BEGICH SCHOLARSHIP INTERN FUND INVITES 2021/2022 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
Pegge Begich, Chair of the Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund, announced today the call for 2021/2022 scholarship applications for Alaskans pursuing degrees and/or careers in education, government, and public service.
This year the Fund is once again only accepting applications for scholarships.
The application form can be found on the Fund’s website: http://www.nickbegichfund.org/apply/

As with last year, the Fund will be providing approximately 10 scholarships in the coming year.
Scholarship sums will range from one$2,500 Eugene A. Kennedy scholarship to the highest-scoring applicant (which may be renewed for up to four years) to one-year scholarships of at least $1,000.00. Last year these scholarships and awards were provided to 19 Alaskans in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 for a combined total of $27,000. Alaska residents pursuing degrees in education, government, or public service are eligible to apply. There is no age limitation for applicants.

The Nick Begich Scholarship Intern Fund was created in 1977 by friends and family of the late Congressman Nick Begich (D-Alaska) who passed away in a plane crash while campaigning for re-election to the United States Congress 45 years ago today. That plane was never found. Said Ms. Begich, “The pandemic has created particularly difficult circumstances for many Alaskan students and their families. Part of my husband Nick’s vision of education was to ensure that, even in times of unexpected obstacles, all students should have an opportunity to reach their educational aspirations.

These awards will not only help those students facing this year’s daunting challenges, but will help us build the next generation of teachers and leaders for Alaska.”
