Sources of Strength

“Sources of Strength is one of the most evaluated and widely disseminated prevention programs in North America. This evidence base began with a partnership with national researchers out of the University of Rochester who observed young people as immensely powerful change agents within their natural peer relationships and believed that a peer component was necessary for effective prevention. The partnership with the University of Rochester produced data to demonstrate the positive impact of Sources on population-level health norms and landed Sources on SAMHSA’s (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) NREPP list (National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices), the gold standard for Evidence-Based Programs and Practices.” – Sources of Strength Website

At Skyview Middle School, we are committed to a vision of wellness and connectedness across our school community through our Sources of Strength (SOS) program. Our mission is to reach all of our students through Advisory visits in collaboration with peer leaders to promote strength-based activities and raise awareness of these sources of strength within our school community to help prevent bullying, violence, suicide, and substance misuse. We have some very exciting plans this year to help our students connect with the health and wellness resources that many of them have requested. Our students and staff will host a teen health and wellness fair in late January. Stay tuned in for more details!
