INSTRUCTIONS
A plan of career education concepts, activities and test evaluation procedures.

STEP 1The teacher/counselor will administer the pre test to the class in September. The purpose of this test is to determine the students’ understanding of basic Career Education concepts.
STEP 2The pre test is scored and a summarization report of the class is completed by the teacher/counselor. Make two copies of the summarization report. (One copy to your principal and the second copy for your records.)
STEP 3The teacher/counselor then begins to introduce the prepared concepts and activities to the class, placing particular emphasis on the items most frequently missed on the pre test.
STEP 4The post test is administered in April. The purpose of this test is to determine if a change occurred from the previous testing.
STEP 5The post test is scored and a summarization report of the class is completed by the teacher. Make two copies of the summarization report. (One copy to your principal and the second copy for your records.

  1. It is important that people be happy with the work they choose.
  2. Most working adults spend more time in their work than on any other activity.
  3. Most working people keep the same job during their working years.

Self

  1. Using my achievement test scores in school might help me plan for my future education and career.
  2. I believe it is too early for me to think about my high school courses.
  3. Hobbies sometimes lead people to a job choice.

Decision Making

  1. I should know enough about myself to make a choice of a possible career cluster.
  2. Reading magazines and newspapers could lead me to think about work.
  3. There is a lot of career information available in our school to help me choose a possible career.

Educational

  1. I don’t have to think about what I want to do for a living until I get out of school.
  2. Going to a four year college is the best and surest route to occupational success.
  3. Each ninth grade course could have a relationship to my career.

Career

  1. I have opportunities to look over course offerings at the high school.
  2. Talking with friends about possible career opportunities can be helpful.
  3. It is my counselor’s responsibility to see that I have the necessary courses for graduation.

Economic

  1. Most families spend more money on recreation (vacations, hobbies) than on housing (rent, utilities).
  2. It is wise to plan how you will spend your income.
  3. Shopping for low interest rates on loans can save you money.

Skill

  1. Everyone has skills and abilities that fit into at least one career cluster.
  2. If I have a special talent, my career could be based on that talent.
  3. One skill can lead to several career possibilities.

Employability

  1. More people lose jobs because they cannot get along with fellow workers than for any other reason.
  2. A person’s reading and math abilities are important in nearly every career.
  3. Employers may request school attendance records (absences, tardiness) as part of application information when people are being considered for a job.
