Message from Our Superintendent

Dear KPBSD Students, Families, Staff, and Community Members,

As we begin the 2025–2026 school year, our focus is clear: we are committed to ensuring that every student in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District has the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in life beyond our schools.

This year, we are building on our strengths and pressing forward in key areas. We are deepening our work in literacy and math, expanding career and technical education opportunities, and continuing to provide strong pathways for students to earn college credit before they graduate from KPBSD. Our focus on early childhood literacy is already producing remarkable results. According to the mCLASS assessment, students in grades K–3 are showing more growth than their peers across Alaska and, in several key areas, more growth than students nationwide. At the same time, our secondary students are reaching new levels of achievement. Those taking Advanced Placement exams outscored peers from across the nation and the globe, while record numbers of students earned industry certifications, participated in dual enrollment courses, and embraced challenging academic opportunities that prepare them for future success

These achievements are made possible through the teamwork and dedication of our teachers, principals, and support staff, and through the partnerships with families and community members who believe in putting students first. They also reflect the district’s alignment to our strategic plan and our core values of Integrity, Perseverance, Community, and Academic Excellence. Together, we are building classrooms and programs that not only prepare our young people for graduation, but also equip them for the opportunities and challenges they will face in the years ahead.

While Alaska continues to face uncertainty in school funding, KPBSD remains committed to innovation, efficiency, and academic excellence. The work ahead is important, and I am confident that by supporting one another, we will see our students reach even greater heights.

Thank you for your trust, your support, and your belief in the potential of every KPBSD student.

Sincerely,

Clayton Holland, Superintendent

About Our Superintendent

Since 2021, Mr. Holland has served as Superintendent of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, leading 42 schools that serve more than 8,000 students across the Kenai Peninsula. He is committed to ensuring every student has the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in life beyond school.

Mr. Holland has called the Kenai Peninsula home since 2000, raising his children here and serving the community in various roles for more than two decades.
