Assistant Superintendent Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Services

The Instructional Services Department develops, oversees, and manages daily operations of the educational programs and services to include:

  • Curriculum development and supervision;
  • Site intervention team process;
  • District student assessment program;
  • District staff and professional development program;
  • School development planning process;
  • District calendar;
  • District special education;
  • School psychologists;
  • QUEST (gifted and talented program);
  • Federal and K-12 school programs;
  • Alternative education;
  • English Language Learners (ELL education);
  • Counseling services;
  • Federal and state grants;
  • Vocational education;
  • Nursing services;
  • District professional development;
  • Instructional technology; and
  • Districtwide instructional specialists

Instructional Support

The Instructional Support Services Department manages the instructional support operations of the school district including finance, health care, facility planning, custodial care, transportation, food services, warehouse, purchasing, risk management and community theater. Serves as the KPBSD Health Care Plan Administrator with supervision over the Health & Benefits Manager. Specific duties of the assistant superintendent include:

  • Assisting in the development of District Policies and Administrative Regulations;
  • Serving as the District’s liaison with Charter Schools;
  • Developing and overseeing the District Emergency Action Plan;
  • Assisting with employee issues;
  • Negotiating lease agreements with agencies or organizations using school facilities;
  • Overseeing transportation;
  • Providing coordination between the borough maintenance and public works departments and the school district;
  • Developing and overseeing MOA’s, MOU’s and contracts with the district; and
  • Overseeing risk management for the District.
