In the event that there is a volcanic eruption and Homer is experiencing Ashfall during school hours, we will immediately implement the following measures:
- Mask distribution to all students and staff.
- School will resume as normal if the eruption occurs during school hours. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow guidance from local authorities.
- If the eruption occurs outside of school hours, please check the KPBSD website for delay, closure or early release information.
We understand that you may be concerned and may want to pick up your student(s) if there is an eruption during school hours. While this is not necessary unless directed by emergency services, we will facilitate student pick-up for those parent/guardians who choose to do so. To ensure everyone’s safety and help to keep this as organized as possible, please follow these steps:
- Please park in the small parking lot closest to the Fireweed wing of the school, shut off your engine. You will stay in your vehicle. You will not be allowed in the building at this time. As you may already know the parking lot at West Homer gets a bit clogged, you will need to be as patient as possible as they will be running a very similar procedure at the same time.
- You will call 907.226.1260 to let us know that you have arrived and parked.
- A designated staff member will escort your student(s) out to you through the exit closest to the Fireweed office. They will be signing off who your student was release to, the time, and giving a description of the pick-up vehicle.
*Important reminder: We will ONLY be releasing students to individuals listed on your child’s emergency contact list. Please insure that your emergency contact information is current and up to date by logging into your PowerSchool parent portal. Please also note, we will be working as quickly as we can to get your student out to you, please be patient.
