New Teaching Talent - Cathy Walker

Cathy Walker brings a variety of unique, Alaska teaching experiences with her to KPBSD. Cathy moved to Alaska 10 years ago and had the opportunity to teach in both Egegik and Kokhanok in the Lake and Peninsula Borough School District. She spent the last nine years teaching in Idaho City, Idaho, but always hoped to return to Alaska one day. When the opportunity to move to Homer presented itself, she grabbed on with both hands.

She and her two children moved to Homer and she began work at Kachemak Selo.

“The biggest surprise was the commute to the school,” she said. “It is quite an experience going down the switchback on a four-wheeler. The experience of working in a Russian village has been a very unique experience. It is an honor to work with students and their families with English as their second language.”
