Virtual Meet and Greet

Monday, January 25, 2021, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Everyone is invited to watch a 30-minute virtual meet and greet with each candidate via the KPBSD livestream, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The video recording for each candidate will be available on the KPBSD website after 2:00 p.m., for everyone who is not able to watch the livestream.

Everyone is invited to offer feedback to the school board after watching the livestream or viewing the video recording, via a short online input survey, for each candidate. Survey input opens when the candidate interview begins. All surveys will close at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2021. The Survey links will become live on Monday. You can find them in the section above, by the candidates name.

Tuesday, January 26, 2021

Interviews will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 26, 2021 via the KPBSD zoom platform, and be livestreamed. The public is invited to watch the livestream, or view the board meeting portion of interviews that will be posted on the KPBSD website later in the day. Each candidate will be allotted the same length of time, and asked identical questions.

The Board of Education of the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District (KPBSD) is searching for a superintendent; applications are open until December 30, 2020. The Board of Education accepted Superintendent John O’Brien’s retirement in July, and approved their Superintendent Search Oversight Committee at their May 6, 2020, board meeting. The successful candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. They will be:

  • An experienced leader with a strong sense of compassion, open mindedness, and someone who embraces cultural diversity. They will maximize the skills and abilities of staff members, with outstanding soft skills to lead staff in continual improvement and meaningful change
  • An individual who will work closely with the KPBSD Board of Education, and build trust relationships among and between staff and community, so the entire school district feels heard and included
  • A fiscally sound instructional leader who has a strong background in curriculum and instruction, who understands personalized learning (PL), and is skilled in social emotional learning (SEL)
  • An optimistic, inclusive, collaborative leader who is goal oriented and trusts staff to work together to accomplish the school district goals using different methodologies and pathways
  • A spirited and adventurous individual who will enjoy and embrace the majestic beauty, cultural, and recreational opportunities which the Kenai Peninsula has to offer
  • A leader with superior communication skills and who will be a positive vocal advocate for the KPBSD, students and staff, on local, state, and national levels
