The Gabriel LeBlanc Memorial Vocational Fund was established by his family and community to celebrate the memory of Gabriel LeBlanc. Gabriel was a polite, helpful young man, quiet and reserved, except when talking about his passion for cars and trucks. He enjoyed being a mechanic and was working towards a lucrative career in the automotive industry. Gabriel’s name will live forever in the Homer community through this scholarship, becoming an everlasting legacy where he will give someone else a head start in their next step.

Candidates should demonstrate a desire to improve their skills, an eagerness to learn, and be respectful, productive members of our community. This scholarship is to be used for approved career and/or technical education (CTE) programs. See the attached list of approved programs below for eligibility requirements.

Sample Approved Programs:

  • Automotive Technology (alternative fuels, automotive service, collision and repair, motorcycle service and repair)
  • Aviation Technology (aircraft dispatcher, airframe and powerplant, aviation maintenance, composite technology, non-destructive testing, unmanned aircraft, pilot)
  • Construction (carpentry, construction technology, furniture and cabinet making, masonry)
  • Commercial Driving
  • Computer Information Technology (computer support, cybersecurity, data analytics, web design)
  • Diesel Technology (diesel service, heavy equipment repair)
  • Electrical Technology (avionics, electrician, electromechanics, instrumentation)
  • Energy Technology (industrial wind maintenance, lineman/powerline, natural gas technology, power plant technology, wind power technology)
  • Farming and Agriculture (agricultural maintenance, agronomy, livestock production, livestock reproduction, turf and grounds)
  • Heavy Equipment Operation (heavy rigging, lattice crane, mobile crane)
  • HVAC (climate and energy control, HVAC technician, mold and air quality technician, refrigeration)
  • Machining (CNC, machine tooling, manual machining)
  • Manufacturing (gunsmithing, mechatronics, robotics and automation, process technology, smart technology)
  • Marine Technology (marine fabrication and maintenance, marine systems installation, marine technician)
  • Plumbing (pipefitting, steamfitting)
  • Protective Services (fire science & technology, personal protective services, police, EMT, waste management)
  • Welding (welding technology, metals fabrication)

If your trade program is not listed or does not fall directly under one of these categories, your program may not be eligible for an award. Requirements: Applicants:

  • Be a high school senior, high school graduate or have a GED equivalent.
  • Priority is given to high school seniors
  • Resident of the southern Kenai Peninsula
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in an approved trade program at an accredited two-year college, vocational, or technical school, or other approved technical institute
  • Four-year degree or bachelor programs are not eligible
