Are you willing to stick with this? There are no set enrollment periods for the iChoice program, however, it is vital for strong learning progress to have continuity. Families and students will need a little time to adapt to this new method of learning. It will be better for your student(s)’ learning experience to dedicate a minimum amount of time to the program and consider switching at quarter and semester breaks.
Do you have a pretty consistent schedule? A consistent schedule will contribute to completion of lessons and tasks and in turn promote continual growth. Unlike a traditional brick and mortar learning, students and their family schedules are largely self-directed and discipline is required to maintain them. This also offers great flexibility, pacing personalized to the student and partnerships for learning.
Are you willing to advocate for yourself by asking questions and asking for help? Unlike traditional courses, an online teacher cannot see when a student needs help or is confused. Distance learning is a partnership! Families and students must be willing to initiate contact with their teacher.
Are you willing to communicate with people on the phone, through email, or with other online tools? Learning through iChoice will incorporate both synchronous (set time) and asynchronous (not a set time) learning. Willingness to connect with the teacher and learning community is an important part of remote learning.
Do you have internet access? The computer will be the virtual classroom, so a consistent internet connection at home is necessary. You will be assigned a Chromebook from your neighborhood school for use while in the iChoice program. If you need assistance with internet connection, please notify your iChoice teacher.
