When her husband got a job at Alaska Christian College, moving to Alaska seemed like a bright idea to Shannon Hoffbeck.

“I visited the summer of 2005. Immediately, I was in love with the state and all it had to offer. I could not get over the fact that I could go fishing at 11 p.m. during the summer months. It was beautiful,” she said.

Shannon met her husband, Sean Hoffbeck, from Eagle River, while attending Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. They were married July 7, 2007 — 7-7-’07 — in Ohio, and two weeks later loaded up their car to move to Alaska.

“God’s creation is simply what I love about this state. Whether it is the moose, salmon or eagles I am simply intrigued by it all. I don’t think it will ever become boring,” she said.

She enjoys softball, golf, fishing, skiing and running — really, anything that offers competition, she said.

Shannon got a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies from Moody Bible Institute, and a master’s degree in elementary education from Liberty University, in Lynchburg, Virg. She did her student teaching at Cook Inlet Academy in 2009 and has been a substitute teacher in KPBSD schools from 2007 to 2010. This year she got a position as a kindergarten teacher at Mountain View Elementary School.

“I absolutely love kindergarten. I enjoy the age and their interesting views about life. They keep me grounded. There is never a day that I do not have a good belly laugh,” Shannon said.
