Student Government Conference

More than sixty high school student leaders met September 24, 2013 for a day of learning, elections, and collaboration at the annual Borough-wide Student Council Meeting. Keynote speaker Tom Tougas said, “The future of Alaska is just going to keep getting better and better— we truly live in the land of opportunity.” Tougas challenged the leaders from KPBSD schools to ask, “Where do I want my life to be in ten years?” “What is your most important asset?” and concluded reiterating, “You live in an amazing place and time. People who have a good reputation and skills have a tremendous future.”

Seward High School hosted the 2013 forum in conjunction with the Alaska SeaLife Center. Workshops included Leadership Skills with Augusta Lind, Fundraising with David Kingsland, College and Career Guide with Kimberly Hewitt, School Spirit with Karin Sturdy, and a President’s Meeting with Chad Hinders. The day concluded with elections for district committees. Congratulations to all the qualified and excellent nominees, and these students who will serve in the 2013-2014 year:
