National Principals Month is your opportunity to say thank you to current and retired principals, and share the many ways that principals serve students, staff, and the community!
Governor Parnell declared October School Principal Recognition Month
WHEREAS, school principals are the primary leaders of our schools, serving with dedication and great purpose to ensure student, faculty, and organizational success; and WHEREAS, principals' roles are dynamic – among their daily administration of school operations, they are also responsible for creating a safe, healthy, and inviting environment that fosters a culture of learning, providing mentorship, leadership, and evaluation of teachers and staff, keeping peace through conflict-resolution and mediation, reviewing and carrying out policies and procedures, and developing, implementing, and assessing school programs; and
WHEREAS, as a central figure in the community, the role of a principal extends beyond the school walls. They serve as a liaison between various stakeholders and government officials, advocating for funding and educational opportunities. They work to engage parents and community members in the process of educating our youth, listening to and understanding the needs, ideas, and goals for their children. In rural Alaska, the school often serves as the nucleus of activity of each town or village, both during and after school hours, further raising the importance of the principal as an influential positive role model; and
WHEREAS, Alaskans recognize and appreciate the commitment, vision, and leadership of Alaska's school principals as they guide our youth on their educational journeys; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim
October 2014 as:
School Principal Recognition Month in Alaska, and encourage all Alaskans to acknowledge and express appreciation for Alaska's school principals whose continued investment in our children and communities helps build a brighter future for our great state.
