  1. The Office of Children’s Services (OCS) contacts Natalie Bates, Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent, as the district’s Point of Contact (POC) whenever a child is taken into custody or experiences a change in placement.
  2. The POC notifies the school principal(s) and counselor(s) about the upcoming Team Determination Meeting (TDM). The school principal attends the TDM to gather information about the student. Additional school personnel may attend if desired.
  3. The POC updates PowerSchool, marking the child as being in foster care and updating contact, custody, and alert information. Immediate registration is required, even if appropriate registration documents are not yet available.
  4. The principal, OCS, and school personnel meet to finalize the child’s placement in their school of origin. If it is determined the student needs to attend a different school, the process includes involving the receiving school’s principal.
  5. The POC contacts the KPBSD transportation specialist to arrange transportation to the school of origin.
  6. This process is repeated for every new placement of the student.
