The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District (KPBSD) proudly announces that Heidi Stokes, Principal of Chapman School (K-8), has been honored as the recipient of The Alan Haskins Principal of the Year Award for 2024.
The Alan Haskins Principal of the Year Award is a prestigious accolade that recognizes a KPBSD administrator who embodies the exceptional qualities exemplified by former Seward Elementary Principal Alan Haskins. These qualities include character, integrity, perseverance, work ethic, empathy, and selflessness. Mr. Haskins was the inaugural recipient of the KPBSD Principal of the Year Award in April 2022. Sadly, he passed away on March 7th, 2023. In tribute to Mr. Haskins’ lasting impact on his students, staff, and the Seward community, and in April of 2023 the award was renamed The Alan Haskins Principal of the Year Award.
Considered the highest recognition for a KPBSD principal, The Alan Haskins Principal of the Year Award acknowledges Ms. Stokes’s exceptional leadership qualities and unwavering dedication to her school community.
Heidi Stokes has served as a teacher, coach, and now principal at Chapman K-8 School in Anchor Point for 15 years. Superintendent Clayton Holland stated, “The transformation of Chapman Elementary School under her leadership has been incredible. Parent engagement is high, students are deeply engaged in learning, staff and students are visibly happy to be at the school, and the school is clean and orderly. Chapman School is a source of pride for the Anchor Point community and a school of choice for parents seeking enrollment for their children. Ms. Stokes is a team player and the kind of leader who consistently credits her staff, parents, and their collaborative teamwork for the school’s success.”
The KPBSD congratulates Ms. Stokes on this well-deserved recognition and extends its gratitude for her steadfast commitment to educational excellence.
